Madame Tussauds Celebrates Independence Day With A Presidents Gallery

WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- Madame Tussauds celebrates Independence Day with the launch of the Presidents Gallery.  

During this 1st Annual Celebrate America event, children and families can enjoy a fun and educational journey through American history and view the wax figures of Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Ben Franklin and other "Founding Fathers." Recently launched wax figures of historic U.S. icons Harriet Tubman and Girl Scouts founder Juliette Gordon Low will also be on display.

The Presidents Gallery is fully interactive, where visitors can touch, see and hear of major historical events and the world's most recognized celebrities.

FOTODC Looks For The Best Area Photographer

Calling all photographers. FotoDC is on the hunt for the most interesting work by Washington area photographers for the 2nd annual Uncover/Discover exhibition.

The panel of curators includes Elizabeth Krist, Senior Photo Editor at National Geographic; Jayme McLellan, Director of Civilian Art Projects and Ken Ashton, Artist and Museum Professional.

Curators will select work from emerging and established photographers who sent in their stuff for a chance to be featured in two exhibitions this fall. 

"It is our mission to discover and spotlight the work of Metro Area photographers,” said Theo Adamstein, Executive Director and Founder of FotoDC.

Vote for WHS Dogs in Best in Shelter Virtual Dog Show June 14-17 to help us win $50,000!

The Washington Humane Society (WHS) is proud to participate in Best in Shelter, the region's first virtual dog show, starting today! Real animals sponsored by four local animal groups are competing to win cash prizes. WHS has entered four adoptable dogs in the online competition, which will run from June 14-17 at www.BestinShelter.org, and we need your help to win!
 
The public is encouraged to vote for their favorite dog up to once per day. The dog with the most votes will earn $50,000 for his or her shelter! Dogs placing second and third will earn $25,000 and $15,000 for their shelters, respectively.

Buffett and David Rubenstein, The Economic Club of Washington, DC's President, are among business leaders at 25th anniversary celebration on June 5th where 10 community organizations, including the Alexandria Seaport Foundation, received a total of $500,000 in grants

The Alexandria Seaport Foundation (ASF), which offers disadvantaged youth and young adults a paid, work-based apprentice program in boat building that prepares participants for careers in the building trades, received a $50,000 grant from The Economic Club of Washington, D.C. at its 25th anniversary on June 5th at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park.

With more than 750 guests and 350 of their four-legged friends at the Washington Hilton, this year’s silver anniversary event made history, raising over $500,000 (a new record) to benefit the critical programs and services of the Washington Humane Society (WHS). We can’t thank our generous community enough for going above and beyond to show how much DC loves DC animals for an incredible two and a half decades.
