Free Money Management Workshop on November 6

On Saturday, November 6th from noon to 4 p.m., the Capital Area Assets Builders will hold a workshop entitled “Can I Afford My Life?”, focused on the basics of money management. 

The seminar, which is absolutely free, will feature a presentation by Maurita Coley, who is the Executive Director of CAAB.  The event will be held at First Trinity Lutheran Church’s Fellowship Hall at 501 4th Street in Northwest, just half a block from the Judiciary Square Metro. 

The event will last three hours and lunch will be provided.

FedTalks 2010 A Smashing Success

Tuesday, October 12 the Shakespeare Theatre Company played host to FedScoop's FedTalks 2010.  FedTalks 2010 event was an all-day conference geared toward sharing unique ideas about the interaction between technology and government.

Speakers at FedTalks included several big names including Arianna Huffington, founder of the Huffington Post, Craig Newmark of Craigslist, and Ana Marie Cox, founder and editor of Wonkette.com.

Peter Corbett of the D.C. based iStrategyLabs and Virginia Congressman Jim Moran also discussed the future of technology in government.

Today, October 12, Huffington Post’s Arianna Huffington, Craigslist founder Craig Newmark, Wonkette.com founder and editor Ana Marie Cox and NASA CTO of IT Chris Kemp among other high profile government, media and technology professionals will speak at Government IT media site FedScoop’s FedTalks 2010 event. The all day conference will focus on how technology can support and improve our government’s key goals and initiatives. 

The event is being held at Sidney Harman Hall, 610 F St. NW. FedTalks 2010 brings together the most important thought leaders, from federal agencies to the White House and media to tech company giants.

First Ever National Fossil Day Celebration on the National Mall

Join paleontologists from the Smithsonian and park rangers from the National Park Service to celebrate the first annual National Fossil Day.

These two organizations are partnering to host the first National Fossil Day during Earth Science Week, in order to promote public awareness and stewardship of fossils, as well as foster a greater appreciation of their scientific and educational value.

The day will be devoted to celebrating the diversity of fossils for understanding the history of life, promoting understanding of fossils as non-renewable resources, highlighting the science-based management of fossils, and establishing partnerships among organizations and agencies that focus on fossils.

At Walk This Way, Fashion Stepped Out Against Domestic Violence

The Second Annual **Walk This Way** Charity Fashion Show took place last evening at The Liaison Hotel in Capitol Hill. The event was hosted by Becky's Fund and Eric Finn Custom Clothiers, and as anticipated, many of D.C.'s social and philanthropic elites were present, including WUSA 9's Angie Goff.

Man Attempting to Create World's Longest Shish Kebab at Turkish Festival

Award-winning regional magazine for women, "I AM Modern," along with Coca Cola North America, is sponsoring the attempt to establish the Guinness World Record for the Longest Shish Kebab on October 3rd, 2010. The attempt will be undertaken by I Am Modern Magazine’s Food Editor Murat Aksu and it will take place during the annual Washington D.C. Turkish Festival at Pennsylvania Avenue NW between 12th and 14th Streets. This will be the first ever recorded attempt for the Longest Shish Kebab with the Guinness World Records.
