Happy Brawlidays | Community Spirit
Give the gift of derby this holiday season! Bring your family, bring your friends, bring your coworkers or just bring yourself to the DC Armory this Saturday, Dec. 18, to see the DC DemonCats fight it out against Scare Force One. Both teams will certainly be in the brawliday spirit as they trade gifts of hip checks and bruises.
This bout is sure to leave the Armory shaking, as these two teams—so far undefeated—will be fighting to take the lead this season. Scare Force One, who came out on top in Seasons 1 and 2, are eager to show their dominance over the Season 3 and 4 champion DemonCats. With a roster heavy on members of the DC All-Stars (Condoleezza Slice, Chinese Cheker, Marion Barrycuda, Velocityraptor, Soledad and Lois Slain), Scare Force has a strong base. But the DemonCats are confident that smart strategy can get them ahead.
To warm up the track, a Grinches vs. Santas expo bout will pit naughty against nice. The Grinches will try to ruin Christmas by running the Santas into the track. But can the Santas win the bout and save Christmas? A few fans will be invited to join in the action during halftime as they are paired up with a rollergirl for a series of races.
In the spirit of the holidays, the DC Rollergirls will be collecting canned food for the Captial Area Food Bank. Fans who bring a donation will receive a $2 coupon to use toward merchandise at this bout only. There will also be a silent auction featuring a special item from official WFTDA sponsor Dr. Hauschka. Finish your holiday shopping, and support our DC All-Stars in their 2011 season!
After the bout, fans are invited to join the skaters to toast another great year of derby with $2 PBR drafts and $3 rail drinks at the official after-party at Union Pub (at 201 Massachusetts Ave, NE).
Doors will open at 3 p.m.; the action stars at 4 p.m. Tickets are just $12 for ages 12 and up, $6 for children 6 to 11 and free for kids 5 and under. They are available in advance through Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.com) or at the door on bout day. Individuals with a valid military I.D. receive admission for only $10 at the door.
The D.C. Armory is located at 2001 East Capitol Street SE in Washington. Secure lot parking is available for $7. In addition, the Armory is adjacent to the Stadium-Armory Metro Station on the Blue and Orange lines.
